Making surgical training smarter

Hands-on training within the field of surgical education has always been a cornerstone for better patient outcomes. A stance we firmly stand on. Yet practical training has lacked objectivity and measurability since its inception. To the detriment of eager trainees and already thinly stretched educators.

To empower both students and teachers alike, we wanted to create a system capable of measuring, assessing and guiding surgical procedures. Procedures that can be trained frequently and reliably.

Thus, we launched a three-year research project we aptly dubbed Smart SYNBONE. To make surgical training smarter, not harder.

Within this project we proved together with the pd|z Group of ETH Zürich and the medical staff of the Lucerne Cantonal Hospital, that the Smart SYNBONE System can predict and assess surgical performance. That it can analyse behaviour and skill without the need of a direct supervisor.

But not only that, within the upcoming research publications we could demonstrate how the system exceeds current assessment standards.

With this system at our disposal we are now ready to carry it from proof of concept along the way to full product development. For this we are seeking interested partners willing to join us on the path towards measurable, performance-driven training in surgical education.
